Resolve to Save Lives

The Johns Hopkins University Resolve to Save Lives Sodium Reduction team was invited by the Ethiopian government to participate in a set of virtual meetings with in-country partners in Ethiopia in early 2023. This culminated in a hands-on, in-country workshop for food policy research in May 2023.

Dr. Neha Khandpur and Dr. Megan Henry (from the Johns Hopkins team) along with Azeb Tolessa (from the Resolve to Save Lives team) facilitated a 3-day knowledge-sharing and technical capacity building experience focused on creating a nutrient profile model for Ethiopia’s upcoming food policies, including front-of-package warning labels for foods high in sodium, sugar, and saturated fat.

Participants included members of Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) https://resolvetosavelives.org, the Ministry of Health Ethiopia (MoH) https://www.moh.gov.et/, Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) http://www.efda.gov.et, The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) https://ephi.gov.et, the Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH) https://addiscontinental.edu.et, and The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) https://www.advocacyincubator.org.
